A discussion with a scientist produced the following interesting information .Wave "attack" angle has increased by 25% for the same wind velocity in the past 10 years! The surface tension of the sea used to be approximately 2 microns and is now 1/4 micron...(remember the school experiment of floating a needle on water). It is possible that no ozone is burning off the surface "oils" , these came from creatures living/dying in the seas. Overfishing destroys the fish and dredging for shell fish (which have no quotas) destroys the inshore weed and as divers we all know that the sea bed is becoming like a harrowed field. The pollution from humanity i.e. washing up powders etc..etc.. that end up in the sea is also causing problems, or adding to them. The sea bed has less oxygen in it. The doldrums get wider each year. Storms are more vicious. More algae is growing, blocking light to the lower depths and reducing growth. Plankton that provided the planet with 90%+ of our oxygen is becoming less. Supposedly if a field of plankton grows to say 15Km square then it dies by "over heating", but if a whale filters a channel through it, it divides and keeps on living/producing.
